Your Questions, Answered
Getting Started
-
If you have concerns about your child's development, trust your instincts. Whether it's their speech, communication, ability to handle daily tasks, or eating habits. You don't need a diagnosis to reach out. We're happy to talk through your concerns and help you figure out if an evaluation makes sense.
-
In most cases, no. You can contact us directly to schedule an evaluation. Some insurance plans do require a physician's referral, so we recommend checking with your provider beforehand. We're happy to help guide you through that process.
-
Your child's first visit is an evaluation. Our therapist will spend time getting to know your child, observing how they communicate or function, and gathering information from you as the parent. From there, we'll share our findings and work with you to develop a personalized treatment plan.
-
We work with children of all ages, from infants and toddlers through school-age kids and adolescents.
Insurance & Billing
-
Yes, we accept many major insurance plans. Please contact us directly and we'll help verify your benefits before your first appointment.
-
We understand that cost is an important factor for families. We offer private pay options and are happy to discuss what works best for your situation. Please reach out and we'll work with you.
-
You will receive an explanation of benefits from your insurance provider after claims are processed. Any remaining balance will be communicated to you clearly and promptly. We believe in full transparency when it comes to billing.
Therapy & Sessions
-
Sessions are typically 30 or 60 minutes, depending on your child's age, needs, and treatment plan.
-
Frequency varies based on each child's individual needs and goals. Our therapists will make a recommendation following the initial evaluation and will adjust as your child progresses. Most children are seen once or twice per week.
-
Yes! And we encourage it! Parent involvement is a key part of how we work. We'll also provide you with strategies and activities to support your child's progress between sessions.
-
Every child is different, and progress depends on many factors including the nature of the concern, consistency of attendance, and carry-over at home. We set measurable goals and revisit them regularly so you always know how your child is progressing.
-
Yes! We know how busy family schedules are. We do our best to coordinate "back-to-back" sessions so your child can see both therapists in one trip. This also allows our SLPs and OTs to touch base in real-time about your child’s progress.

School-based therapy is wonderful, but it is strictly limited to goals that impact "educational performance." Private therapy at Forward Therapy allows us to work on functional life goals. Skills like participating in a birthday party, eating a variety of foods, or communicating at home may not be addressed with school therapy.
